What kind of information will you get from my sleep test?
During a sleep study, a sleep technologist records multiple biological functions during sleep, such as brain wave activity, eye movement, muscle tone, heart rhythm, and breathing via electrodes and monitors placed on the head, chest and legs. After a full night’s sleep is recorded, the data will be tabulated by a technologist and presented to a physician for interpretation.
Will I have my own room?
Yes, you will have your own private bedroom and bathroom along with a television and DVD player for your convenience. Many patients have compared their rooms as looking much like a four or five star resort!
What can I expect from my appointment?
When you arrive, your completed sleep history, medications form, a copy of your picture ID, and your copay will be collected for your appointment. Your technologist will show you to your room where the setup will take place. Your setup will take approximately one hour and you will be allowed an hour to wind down. During this time you may read a book, watch television or use your laptop.
Will I be able to sleep with all those wires on me?
Yes, you will be able to move around in bed without getting tangled in those wires.
What happens if I need to use the restroom at night?
You can get up to use the bathroom as often as you need to during the night. You will need to let your technologist know if you need to get out of bed.
Can somebody stay with me for my study?
A parent or guardian must stay with their child if they are under the age of 18. Adults that require assistance or have a medical condition that requires a medical practitioner or caretaker are permitted to have someone stay.
When will I know the results?
In most cases, your results are faxed to your referring physician within 72 hours of your study (excluding weekends).
